Maui is becoming unsustainable to live for the average person. One of the factors for this is Hyper-tourism. Hyper-tourism is RAISING HOUSING PRICES AND HURTING MAUI’S QUALITY OF LIFE! Visit the link below to give a video testimony. If you have any ideas on how to lower the amount of tourism on Maui please share your ideas on here as well. Is it possible for Maui to sustain itself without or very little tourism ?

The idea of computers used to care for the well-being of man and the planet he/she lives on-come and join if you have the time.

On and off for 2 years, I used google earth to document all the social ills all over Maui. While doing this for two years, I noticed a pattern appeared. The data showed that Kahului and wailuku showed the most social ills(homelessness, theft, death do to poor design, drug abuse etc.) I think I can take it further by continuing to document social Ill & create an algorithm which could help design the best possible solution for social issues. Google earth also could help to create a space/platform for others who wish to share there ideas & skills to improve the system together to create a more healthier environment for the human family and the planet.

If are interested in this idea and you want to help me out in any way let me know

Grandmas house

As a grandmother of 8 grandkids I have to keep them occupied with something they enjoy. They love to color and paint so I found a way to keep them interested without a big mess. I came across some large pieces of paper. I tape it to the wall and they can color together and use markers and paint and crayons all right on the wall. Then flip it over and use the other side. They can come back over and add more to the artwork. Kids love seeing the art they made hanging up every time the come to Grandmas house. My Happy little artist’s inspired by Grandmas art and I teach them how to use the paint and make shapes. I love to keep them learning. Happy kids, Happy Grandma.

Being involved with the Community

For the last day in a half, Ms. Leah Tunkarah needed help watering the garden, digging trenches( to plant new veggies)., she needed help vacuuming the floors, the overgrown weeds needed to be cut, and parts of her bathroom needed to be cleaned- In total everything it took about 4 hours for a day in a half.

The consequences:

  • Conversations about how we live our lives
  • How our brains function( how we see the world)
  • Discipline
  • Values
  • Respect
  • Education
  • Community
  • A nutritious meal
  • A place to rest
  • Books to read
  • A quiet place to think and relax

Before I arrived to my auntie Leah house, I collected some goods from a non-profit called ‘Feed my sheep’. Once I arrived to Ms. Leah house, I gave her some of the veggies I received from feed my sheep- I wanted to show my gratitude or thanks for allowing me to be in her inspiring home and I knew she would use them. Later she used some of the veggies to cook some healthy meals-a circular exchange occurred and it nourished us spiritually, physically and mentally. What does gardening look like automated ? I thought of my auntie’s carpal tunnel & the amount of work it takes to actually garden. I want to work with anyone with similar thoughts & ideas.

Teaching Experience

I am currently working as a Garden Coordinator at an elementary and middle school here in Hawai’i. We mainly focus on teaching the kids about the importance of growing our own food, the benefits to connecting to nature, the basic skills of gardening. The kids love getting engaged in planting projects, watching their plants miraculously grow when cared for, and reaping the abundance of hard work.

I formulate lessons based off of “Grow Some Good”‘s curriculum, NextGen Science’s school standards, and my own ideas. A lot of the time I will get inspiration by strolling through the grocery store (quick lessons on starting plants from produce at our local grocery store or picking up seed packets) or just by observing what nature has to present itself that day, or week!

“How To Read A Seed Packet” Lesson:
A quick lesson I gave this week to the elementary school students was on “How To Read A Seed Packet”. I actually had a college class day on this topic.. so might as well start them way earlier! I bought a couple packets of radish seeds and had the class observe them. We discussed what seed packets tell us and why we need to read them before planting. It teaches kids how to plan around their garden spaces and calendar year for optimal plant success. In this lesson, we focused on the “age to maturity” of these radishes – which was around 25 days. This is perfect for us right now because the students will be able to harvest right before their winter break.

“Self-love” Lesson ft. Roses:
Lastly for the middle schoolers, getting engagement has been a little more difficult (they’re at that age). They have really been appreciating food harvests and cooking. Today’s lesson was inspired by my walk into the school’s actual garden space. The rose bush was popping off **stop and smell the roses** and I had the thought of making rose water! I personally like to get witchy in the kitchen and create my own beauty products/herbal concoctions. So.. I created a lesson around the importance of self-love and self-care. We tended to our “inner gardens”, talked about the benefits of rose water, harvested rose petals, and made rose water and mamaki tea. For the rose water, I had the students each pick a rose that they felt reflected themselves.. as we are all beautiful flowers!! Morals of the story – self-care needs to be a daily practice for building our self-love… the most important relationship we have is with ourselves… our gardens often reflect our inner selves… and we can harvest from our garden for our own beauty products or herbal concoctions!

Hope this inspires some and I hope to see comments of more ideas!

Poetry from the youth

 wasn’t a good day

so I went home I started to pray

i said why lord for this day

I started getting messed up in the brain

i really started to feel the pain

If you felt the same way you will be going insane

I started having suicide thoughts

my life was like a thousand knots

i was trying to release all the thoughts

When i went outside i sat on a dock

i was thinking why is life so dark
then I look up in the sky

 and i started to cry

in my mind i felt like i wanna to die

but i heard that u a freaking lie

 but i cant deny.

Then i started thinking praying was a freakin lie

and if im with u up there we could fly

but nah  we cant see the tears in my  momma’s eyes when I thought about it i felt gloomy I just feel like nobody one knew me so I wondered would he choose me
